2nd Annual Forest Frenzy Winter Triathlon

Triathletes in the Midwest can still participate in the sport of triathlon this winter with the return of the Forest Frenzy Winter Triathlon this February in Northern, Wisconsin. The 2nd annual race, touted as the only outdoor winter triathlon of its kind in the state of Wisconsin. takes place February 16, 2019, in Boulder Junction and features a snowshoeing, fat biking and cross-country skiing.

The Forest Frenzy Winter Triathlon is staged at the historic Camp Manito-wish YMCA, a Northwoods retreat that overlooks Boulder Lake and is hosted by the Boulder Junction Chamber of Commerce.  Camp Manito-wish YMCA is approximately 228 miles North of Madison, WI or 240+ miles Northeast from Minneapolis, MN.

This fun challenging wilderness endurance event features a 7.5-kilometer Cross-Country Ski (classic or skate) course, a 5-kilometer Snowshoe loop and a 7.5-kilometer Fat Tire Bike course all tucked in the woods of the Northern Highland-American Legion State Forest.

7.5-kilometer Cross-Country Ski Loop
The ski course is a wilderness trail that is deceptively tough and incomparably beautiful – glimpse the Manitowish River and Boulder Lake through the tall pine trees, watch for deer, snowshoe hare and other wildlife tracks while breathing in the fresh unpolluted air of the Northwoods.

5-kilometer Snowshoe Loop
The snowshoe course is beautifully rugged – winding through the woods on a combination of ungroomed single-track sections that could be powdery and groomed 10-12” wide ski trail sections. Watch for low hanging branches and uneven terrain in some tight spots.

7.5-kilometer Fat Time Bike Course
The fat tire bike course uses the ski course.
