The World Triathlon Corporation’s IRONMAN has grown from it’s a single named race to a market that now extends to 34 countries on 6 continent in 2015, and it just keeps growing… The phenomenon started over 35 year ago in Hawaii with the full IRONMAN triathlon distance which features a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike and a 26.2 mile run. In 2006 a new series and brand welcomed triathletes from around the world to test their skills, that brand was IRONMAN 70.3. The half iron distance race series features a 1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike and a 13.1 mile run.
Races have come and gone in both of the series, but the IRONMAN brand is still alive and strong and continues to expand. So far in 2015 we have at least a dozen new races on the race calendar, either IRONMAN or IRONMAN 70.3 and our guess is that we’ll see even more.
The brand is truly global. The brand attracts all types of triathletes from around the world to compete in branded triathlon events every month, in various parts of the world. In the past triathletes might have had to travel great distances to participate in a world championship qualifying race, but now with the expansion over the years, races are even closer to them. In total there are 125 races, but athletes con only choose from 123 of them as those are the qualifying races for either world championship.
