Lugano to Host New TriStar Triathlon in 2019

Switzerland will gets it’s second TriStar Triathlon event in 2019 with the addition of a new race in Lugano, a city southern Switzerland’s Italian-speaking Ticino region.  TriStar Switzerland takes place in Rorschach in July.

The inaugural TriStar Lugano race will take place on Sunday, June 23, 2019 where beginners and top athletes will run side by side TriStar 55.5 event. The unique TriStar 55.5 format consists of a 500m Swim a 50km Bike and a 5km Run. The bike-centric format with short a short swim and run attracts top athletes as well as amateurs. The event is open to relay teams as well.

Start at the beach of the Lido Lugano – Finish line in front of the beautiful Villa Ciani

Start at the beach of the Lido Lugano – Finish line in front of the beautiful Villa Ciani The start at Lido di Lugano will take place by running into Lake Lugano. After 500m of swimming the athletes arrive at the transition inside the Lido. The bike route leads on the hilly and beautiful route along the lake towards Pregassona over Valcolla, while returning towards Lugano the area of Capriasca and afterwards the town of Canobbio will be crossed. After 50km of biking a run of 5km takes the athletes along the promenade of Lugano towards Paradiso along the street Riva Caccia. The finish line is located inside the park ‘Parco Ciani’ just in front of the historical ‘Villa Ciani’ with its breathtaking view on Lake Lugano and the surrounding hills.

The format of TriStar restarted in 2017, after a short break. Established in 2009, the triathlon series organized 25 events in several countries with an attractive format of distances. In September 2017 the restart took place in Rorschach Switzerland, a strategical interesting border triangle (CH, AT, DE) at Lake Constance. The management was realigned and shines with a star cast out of the professional sport. The Olympic champion in time trial, Fabian Cancellara, completes the trio of the new TriStar management
