No More IRONMAN Santa Rosa After 2020

2020 EDITION OF IRONMAN SANTA ROSA WILL MARK THE END OF FULL DISTANCE RACE IN SANTA ROSA

IRONMAN has announced that the 2020 edition of IRONMAN Santa Rosa triathlon will mark the end of the full-distance IRONMAN triathlon in the city of Santa Rosa, in Northern California. While the race in Santa Rosa has only been around since 2016, the history related to the event goes back many years. The World Triathlon Corporation formally purchased Vineman, the full-distance triathlon back in in October of 2015 and converting it to IRONMAN Vineman in Sonoma County.  Vineman, the 25-year old iron distance race in California’s wine country with the swim course in the Russian River had character and charm but couldn’t compete with the mighty IRONMAN brand.  The IRONMAN Vineman race was moved to Guerneville, CA and only lasted one or two years there before being moved to Santa Rosa.

The last edition of IRONMAN Santa Rosa will be held on July 25, 2020.

The city of Santa Rosa began hosting IRONMAN Santa Rosa in 2016 and landed the IRONMAN 70.3 Santa Rosa triathlon in 2017.

”Hosting two world-class events the size and scale of a full-distance IRONMAN and IRONMAN 70.3 triathlon requires a significant level of resources and time on behalf of all our community partners,” said Peter Rumble, CEO of the Santa Rosa Metro Chamber – the host partner for the events. “While the community has recovered and is truly open for business, we decided, jointly, to give our community partners some breathing room for the next few years, and focus all of our attention on making the IRONMAN 70.3 triathlon the best is the Country.”

While the full-distance IRONMAN triathlon will no longer be be taking place in Sant Rosa the City of Santa Rosa will continue to host to the IRONMAN 70.3 Santa Rosa triathlon with the 2020 event taking place on Saturday, May 9, 2020.
